Ready to offer local union member discounts to your union members? Use these templates to communicate with area businesses:

Special Benefits Letter of Agreement

If you are a union leader, working with your local businesses to offer local discounts to your union members could be a good way to attract and retain union membership.

The special benefits letter below should be used as the agreement between the business supplying a discount to your members and the union. In many cases, this "benefits letter" can be used as the only agreement on the benefit that the union has negotiated with the business. However, you should attempt to also use the "Special Discount Agreement," as part of the contract with the business, as the agreement spells out in more detail the responsibilities of the business.

It's easy to use this template:

  1. You can either type in changes to the Word template or print out the PDF blank template and write in the appropriate information.

  2. Insert the name of the business, noted as vendor, and the name of the union.
  3. Include a detailed description of the benefit or discount - and any restrictions - in the allotted space. You will want to note exactly what the discount is that you negotiated with the vendor (for example - 15% off of all purchases, a free large drink with the purchase of a sandwich, buy one get one free, etc.).
  4. Include the date when the agreement will end.
  5. Include the name, address and phone number of the business supply the discount or benefit.
  6. Print the document out by selecting print. Print on union letterhead.
  7. You can save the document by moving it into one of the folders on your computer.
  8. Have a representative of the business and a representative of the union sign and date the document.
  9. Have the governing body of the union review and approve the document.

Vendor Discount Agreement Template

The special discount agreement below can be used as the contract between the business supplying a discount to your members and the union. This agreement should be used along with the "special benefits letter," which will describe the discount in detail.

Please note that in some instances that a business will shy away from the more formal contract language of this agreement. In that case, the "special benefits letter" can be used as the only written document between the vendor and the union. However, you should attempt to use this agreement if possible.
